Driveway Stain Removal in Ooltewah, TN: What Pressure Washing Can (and Can't) Fix

3 min read

Every driveway in Ooltewah tells a story. Some of it is good (your kids learned to ride bikes there), and some of it is an oil drip from a car you sold two years ago. If your concrete has gone grey, green, or blotchy, you're not alone. Here's an honest look at the most common driveway stains we see around Ooltewah, Collegedale, Harrison, East Ridge, Cleveland, and McDonald, TN, what a good pressure wash can lift, and where it's smart to keep expectations realistic.

Driveway stain removal in Ooltewah TN: before and after pressure washing a concrete driveway

Why East Tennessee driveways get dirty so fast

Our humid summers, shady lots, and big spring pollen loads are great for gardens and not so great for concrete. Concrete is porous, so it soaks up whatever lands on it: rainwater full of leaf tannins, algae spores, red clay tracked in from the yard, and drips from cars and mowers. North-facing and tree-covered stretches stay damp longest, which is why the edges of many driveways turn dark green or black while the sunny middle stays lighter.

Wondering how often to get ahead of it? Our how-often guide for houses and driveways lays out a simple schedule for this climate.

The usual suspects (and what to expect)

1. Algae, mildew, and that black or green film

This is the most common thing we wash off driveways here, and the most satisfying. Organic growth lives near the surface, so a thorough, even wash usually brings concrete back to a much lighter, even color. It can also make walkways less slick after rain, which matters on sloped Ooltewah driveways.

2. Red clay and dirt

Clay stains look scary but often respond well to a thorough wash, especially when they're fresh. Older clay that has baked into the surface for years may lighten a lot without disappearing completely.

3. Tire marks

Those dark stripes where you park usually come up well with a thorough wash. Hot-tire marks from turning the wheel while parked can be more stubborn, but most fade significantly.

4. Oil and grease drips

Here's where we keep it honest. Fresh oil spots often lift a good bit, but oil that has soaked into the concrete for years can leave a shadow even after cleaning. We'll give it our best, and we'll tell you up front if a spot is likely to fade rather than vanish. Tip: blot fresh drips with cat litter or a rag as soon as you see them. The less time oil has to soak in, the better.

5. Rust and fertilizer marks

Orange spots from fertilizer pellets, metal furniture, or iron-rich well water are a different kind of stain. A regular pressure wash won't always move them. Mention them when you call so we can talk through what's realistic for your driveway before we show up.

6. Leaf tannin shadows

Wet leaves sitting on concrete leave brown leaf-shaped prints, especially this time of year. These usually brighten up well with a wash. Our fall pressure washing checklist covers the other autumn chores worth doing before winter.

Why the right pressure matters

More pressure isn't always better. Blasting concrete with a narrow tip can leave "zebra stripes" or etch the surface, especially on older or broom-finished driveways. The goal is an even, overlapping pass for a uniform finish, with focused pressure saved for the spots that need it. Siding, roofs, and wood fences are a different story; they get a gentler soft wash. Our soft wash vs. pressure washing guide explains the difference.

Bundle it while we're there

Most driveway jobs pair naturally with the sidewalk, front steps, and porch. Lots of folks add a house soft wash or fence pressure washing so the whole place looks Dew-ne in one visit. See our driveway pressure washing service page for what's included.

Quick FAQ

Will my driveway look brand new? Most driveways look dramatically cleaner and more even. Deep oil, rust, and old concrete wear may still show a little, and we'll tell you which spots before we start.

Do I need to be home? Not always. We just need water access from an outdoor spigot and cars moved off the concrete.

How do I get a quote? Text a wide photo of the driveway plus a close-up of the worst stain. Our quote-day guide walks through the rest.
